The ass is the ego. The ass does not exist. Beauty is all encompassing. Beauty is not a thing; it just is. The beauty of life is life itself and life itself is nothing more than a state of being; a state of being which cannot be labeled or identified without sacrificing the beauty of life. Hence the state of being is not, in fact, a state of being, but rather it simply is.
I drank a bottle of wine before school today.
As I get older life seems to have less meaning, probably because the illusion of meaning is ever fading away, exposing life for what it is; a meaningless void.
I cannot remember what I did, so I cannot remember what it was that I was going to do. But time is an illusion so all of that becomes irrelevant; further decomposing the facade that is the meaning of life.
I’m going to take a nap now.

Beauty certainly has come a long way and trends over time have come and gone and come again. Hopefully people do not start painting their skin white again or start wearing powdered wigs! They say that trends are cyclical ya’ know. 😉
A few fun facts:
- The history of colonizing America spans from 1492 – 1763.
- The first world map showing New World “America” was produced in 1507.
- The Roanoke Colony was established on Roanoke Island, and is later referred to as the “Lost” Colony due to its disappearance.
- The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783) gained the American colonists their freedom and Independence Day is celebrated each year on the 4th of July.
The evolution of make-up was an interesting (and often times lethal) journey for our ancestors. Some of the more notorious methods and products of the times included:
- White lead paint to cover the skin and mercury sulfide for rouge coloring;
- drawing one’s blood to achieve a faint color;
- ingesting arsenic to achieve rosy cheeks; and
- dilating pupils pupils with belladonna.
To add insult to injury, if a bride-to-be in England in 1770 managed to survive her beauty regimen of choice, her marriage could be annulled due to her fiancée being tricked into thinking she was more beautiful than she naturally was (apparently padded bras had not yet been invented).

Summer is in full swing, and I am a warm weather, sunny kind of a guy! I love to be outside and I love going on adventures; particularly in the sunny warmth of the season.
The sun and I have a love-hate relationship. On one hand, I am completely addicted to it. I probably have a mild bit of seasonal affective disorder; but the dark cold winter season certainly does nothing for me. Then Spring comes along and teases with bits of warm weather, hinting at the summer to come, intermixed with flashbacks to winter. Finally, the sunny warmth of Summer comes and puts those short, cold days behind us.
We need the sun for our survival. Being out and about in the sun’s nourishing glow provides us with much-needed, mood-enhancing vitamin D; something people in this part of the country are chronically deficient in due to our short summer season and oft cloudy skies.
However, it is no secret that the sun can wreak havoc on our skin, not to mention the increased risk for skin cancer. With any good thing; moderation is best.
The best way to protect against the harmful effects of the sun is to wear sun protection such as sun tan lotion. But that’s not all! Did you know that regular use of sun tan lotion can actually REVERSE signs of skin damage and improve the overall health of your skin? It’s true! So lather up with a quality sun lotion on a regular basis, followed by a quality retinol product and people just may start asking you if you have discovered the fountain of youth!

It has become increasingly obvious to me, that my life is largely effected by my weekly videos at YouTube.
And that’s ok, to a point, but it has become increasingly obvious that I need to manage the rest of my life around my hobby(s) a little more effectively. For example, I accumulate footage throughout the week for my videos, but a lot of the best stuff comes from the weekend. Because of this, I am often up through the entire night Sunday. Being a professional barber/ cosmetologist, I have Mondays off so this isn’t so bad, though after my sleep deprivation and an all-to-brief nap, I often indulge in a bottle of merlot or cabernet sauvignon. These are red wines and are somewhat healthy and contain healthful/ youthful antioxidants, etc.
Monday I will get through and the wine. Tuesday, I am trying to get out of bed and kick it into gear. Uh oh, I didn’t cook/ pack any food. Guess I’ll swing through the McD’s drive-thru. And while I am still 1000 calories or so away from my 2600 calorie daily allotment after those two double quarter pounder with cheese sandwiches thanks to the BOGO offer in my iPhone app, and even though I can square up my marcos by only consuming protein for the remainder of the day and steering clear of fats and carbs, I thought to myself, “I bet this is no good for beauty!”

I don’t eat fast food all the time, maybe not even every week, but I do know that I will work extra hard to get those macros on point today and will be putting in a little extra at the gym!

Tonight my son and I are heading over to Manhattan Square for a Living Colour concert. It will be a great time. That got me to thinking, “is there any evidence of music having an effect on our physical appearance, our aging, our beauty?
An article on Cracked.com refers to the many neurological/ cognitive benefits to music. There are plenty of reputable, scientific findings documented in scholarly articles that support these effects. In this sense, listening to music may have an indirect effect on our beauty; particularly for those with an unhealthy addiction that they are trying to break.
This article on upworthy does not provide a scientific backing for their claims, however, from a personal standpoint, I understand how listening to certain types of music at certain times makes me feel. The tempo of various genres, the key in which the music is played, etc. all have an effect on my overall sense of well being in one way or another.
So the takeaway from all of this is that music can effect your emotions, your immune system, and your cognitive abilities. Enjoyable music has a positive effect on your overall constitution which will show and ultimately support your beauty. So crank it up or turn it down; whatever fits the mood. In the end you’ll be doing yourself good!
I apologize for the not-so-daily start to my daily blog. I had the most wonderful Father’s Day weekend. I then spent all night Sunday, all day Monday and all night Monday creating my weekly vlog from the footage; getting only a couple of two-hour naps during that time span. I worked very hard on the Father’s Day special and am particularly proud of it.
This recent series of events had me contemplating how sleep affects beauty. I am the antithesis of Sleeping Beauty. People tell me all the time that I look younger than my age. I take reasonably good care of myself, however, sleep is always a challenge. Either I am too involved in a project to stop (like this weekend’s vlog), too excited over whatever I have going on to shut my brain off, etc, etc. And while it seems that I am taking it all in stride, that I look no worse for the wear, I am certain that it takes little increments off of my years. It is the fine balance between living the life you want to live and taking care of yourself. Tonight and tomorrow night should be good for sleep. However, Thursday night will no doubt be a late night of partying after the Living Colour concert.
Stress + no sleep = stressed out skin that isn’t afraid to show it. Fact.
So I feel that the best approach to sleep is the same as the best approach to anything in life; prioritization and balance. Do what you can to get 6 – 8 hours of sleep each night. Sometimes other priorities won’t allow that much sleep and other times it won’t be an issue. Just be aware and if you find that you are not getting enough sleep for an extended period of time; reassess the situation. It’s also important to follow best-sleep practices when you do prepare to hit the hay. This article from Cosmopolitan provides a succinct article of good recommendations.
